站在林肯纪念堂面前，站在那个目光坚毅的林肯雕像18个楼梯之下──当年金博士面对20万人发表了I have a dream的著名演说，这个演说成了60年代美国民权运动的标志性事件。历史总是以某种方式联系在了一起，不仅在金博士的演说里，而且在他们的死亡方式──他们都被刺杀了，但是直到今天，金博士的梦想依然美丽而inspiring，对于这个世界追求公义和爱的人们。奥巴马就职演说的时候，U2在林肯纪念堂前演唱了那首脍炙人口的Pride (in the name of the love),这是一首献给金博士的歌：

清晨的阳光很美好，不时有里根国际机场的飞机飞过，一个黑人父亲在林肯纪念堂墙壁上著名的gettysburg演讲词前给他的孩子说着什么，外面硕大的汉白玉石阶中间露出一对恋人的微笑。我在想，这个世界很多人在骂美国，很多人在赞美美国，但是这个世界可曾有那个国家为纪念一个民权运动领袖一个dissenter而把他的生日定为全国的假日──马丁路德金日。
